BoroWeb spoke to Blue Square Premier leading marksman Steve Morison after the victory at Lewes
We are back to winning ways, and it’s a goal for you. That’s a successful day’s work is it not?
It’s good. It was a hard place to come, it was always going to be a difficult game and the pitch is a leveller. It doesn’t really let you play. We got the result and it was hard work, but I think we deserved it.
It was good for you to score this penalty wasn’t it?
I just went back to doing what I did for the first two penalties, and not for the last two. The gaffer has just turned up and he’s trying to get me to change it, but I’m not going to change it.
Having missed your last two penalties, was there any doubt in your mind over this one?
No not really. We were talking about it before the game. We were asked who would take the penalties and I said “I’ll have them, I’m not bothered!” It was me versus the keeper and I made a decision and it worked. What I did with the other two penalties was to change my mind as I was running up, which is why I missed. I get a chance and I get paid to score goals, I got this chance and I thought I’d take it.
Having got a comfortable margin in the end, can we take this momentum we are starting to build into our next match?
Yes we will have to take it into Tuesday. Grays is going to be a tough game, they shouldn’t be second bottom, but they are. I don’t know how they got on today, but it’s always tough against them. Last time they battered us to be fair, but we nicked two goals. We will go into Tuesday and see if we can carry this on.
Grays beat York away today by a single goal, so both sides will have had good away wins.
Did they? Well they are going to be high on confidence aren’t they? They have had a good result and like we just said, they are not a bad team. Some things are just not happening for them at the minute. It’ll be a tough game down at our patch and we will just have to wait and see what happens.
From your point of view, it’s been a bit of a barren patch for you, but you always seem to be able to put that behind you and concentrate on the game. Would that be fair?
I’m a confident person. I’m not someone who shirks responsibility and I’m not going to doubt myself. I haven’t scored for a few games, and then I had the game where I was dropped and the last league game where I was injured. But if another penalty comes, I’ll take the next one too.
On that subject, how are you feeling after your ankle injury?
It’s still very sore. We will just strap it up and crack on. I’ll just do it for the team.
