Yesterday Stevenage utility player Lawrie Wilson signed a new, improved 2 year deal to stay with Boro. The 21 year old was out of contract in May and, although the club had re-engaged him, he was able to move to another club if he wished. Lawrie told manager Graham Westley of his desire to stay with Boro after returning from the players trip to Las Vegas.
Also joining Boro is 25 year old striker Chris Beardsley, formerly of Kettering and York. The experienced frontman worked with Graham Westley at Rushden and Diamonds and joins on a contract until the end of the season.
Going in the other direction is midfielder Gary Mills, who has joined Mansfield after the club decided not to take up his option a few weeks ago. Gary served the club well in last seasons squad and leaves Boro with our best wishes for the future.
Four youngsters have also been released in the past week. Liam McDevitt, Eliot Buchanan, George Brinkman and Zak Burke have all joined James Russell and Jack Bradshaw who were released mid season. Phil Wallace said "It was difficult to let these kids go but the gap from where they're at and what we need to compete for promotion is just huge. Graham and his management team have had a good look during last season, but none of the lads have a chance of making it into Boros squad next season so it's best to let them move on lower down, get regular first team games somewhere and develop in their own time" |
